Our Mission

The mission of the Conventional Woodturners Association is to promote woodturning.

Accordingly, the CWA will provide a community of fellowship for the exchange of knowledge among
wood turners - from beginners to experts.
Fundamentally, this exchange will include the core knowledge of tools, techniques, and wood to
turn wood safely and effectively. Ultimately, this exchange will include the knowledge and skills used to attain a sophisticated level of design and control over the final turned form and presentation of the wood's figure.

The CWA recognizes many woodworkers combine other techniques (such as segmenting, carving,
drawing, etc) with woodturning to produce wood art. While these pieces can be beautiful, the CWA’s mission is the promotion of woodturning and woodturning alone.
To stay true to this charter, CWA resources will not be used for the promotion or support
of other techniques.

We
have no problem with any member doing these types of operations, in
fact we support the right of members to expand into wood art and hope we are able to help lay a firm turning foundation that will assist them in these endeavors; however we do not allow that type of work to be used in CWA supported functions.
